This Chocolate Martini will light up your happy hour with rich chocolate and fiery cinnamon flavors! It’s a creamy chocolate cocktail with some fire from muddled jalapeno, cinnamon tequila and a glass rimmed with Red Hot candies!
Have you tasted Mexican Hot Chocolate? It’s rich chocolate with a touch of cinnamon and often chilies.
It was a cold and windy day that inspired this transformation of the Mexican Hot Chocolate flavors into a Chocolate Martini with a spicy bite!
It luxurious in texture and flavor and will warm your insides too!
Chocolate Martini Ingredients
Technically a martini is made with gin or vodka and vermouth. All alcohol.
The definition has broadened to encompass a wider range of drinks but they are mostly alcohol without much of a mixer.
Here’s what’s in this martini recipe:
- Cinnamon Tequila
- Coffee Liqueur
- Orange Liqueur
- fresh Jalapeno peppers
- Dark Chocolate Nut or Dairy Milk
Dark Chocolate Milk
I originally used a chocolate walnut milk beverage for the recipe.
I suggest using a dark chocolate nut milk if available, though chocolate dairy milk will be delicious too.
Rimming the Glass
Red Hot candies are pulverized in a blender to make spicy rimming sugar for the chocolate martini.
If you can’t find Red Hot candies, substitute Cinnamon Imperials which are the same thing.
They are sold in bottles in the baking aisle of the grocery store.
Cinnamon Imperials are decorations for baked goods so you’ll find them with sprinkles.
If you haven’t rimmed a cocktail glass this Salty Dog cocktail recipe breaks down the steps. Substitute the homemade cinnamon sugar for salt.
How to Make the Chocolate Martini – Step-by-Step
You’ll need a few standard cocktail making supplies for the Chocolate Martini:
- Cocktail Shaker with strainer (TIP: quart size Mason jar with lid can also be used)
- Muddler
To make the cocktail:
STEP 1: Combine the tequila, liqueurs and jalapeno section in the shaker. Muddle the jalapeno.
STEP 2: Add the chocolate milk beverage and a handful of ice. Shake vigorously and strain into the prepared rimmed cocktail glasses.
Cocktail Notes
- For spicier cocktails allow Step 1 to sit for 20 minutes before proceeding to Step 2.
- The Chocolate Martini may be served chilled or at room temperature. It will taste spicier at room temperature.
Pro Tip for Removing Seeds from Jalapeno Peppers
Before muddling the jalapeno pepper section you’ll need to remove the seeds. The seeds add the heat to the chile peppers!
Sliding a dinner spoon under the seeds and membrane is an easy way to free and discard the seeds.
Always wash your hands well after working with spicy chile peppers. Touching your hands to your eyes or nose will cause a burning sensation.
This method minimizes contact with the seeds.
