Margaritas are a year round cocktail. Nothing pairs better with spicy Mexican food or is a better thirst quencher!
My favorite recipe for making margaritas at home is a very easy margarita recipe. The recipe is a ‘fresh-style’ margarita meaning it does not use sugary mixes, or heavily sweet liqueurs which I personally believe contribute to hangovers and cloud the flavors of fresh ingredients.
Agave nectar, lime juice and good quality tequila are the main ingredients with seasonal favorites added in for a perfect cocktail.
On one of my trips to Santa Fe I did some margarita tasting, which included a Midori Melon Margarita. I had a wakeup call, realizing I had never tasted Midori, the emerald green melon liqueur, and assumed purely on appearance that it would be sickly sweet.
Don’t judge a book by its cover or booze by its color; it was fresh, light and completely opposite of my presumption.
The Secret of a Perfect Honeydew Melon Margarita
My normal preference for margaritas is to serve them over ice. After muddling, shaking with ice, I strain them into an Old Fashioned, or Rocks, glass over fresh ice.
There are times I like the idea of a frozen margarita but don’t always love the pulverized ice. TRICK: Instead of using ice in these frozen Honeydew Melon Margaritas, I used frozen melon chunks! Once added to the blender with the other cocktail ingredients, the frozen melon cubes behave like ice to froth up into a smooth, creamy, light, refreshing margarita; no ice required!
Honeydew is a very mild melon and adds a fresh flavor in compliment to the other ingredients. It’s cooling as well making it a wonderful partner to spicy Mexican food!
These fresh, light, refreshing Honeydew Melon Margaritas are a unique take on a traditional margarita. It’s an easy margarita recipe to make. A cooling compliment to spicy foods or to cool a hot day.
Frozen Honeydew Melon Cubes
When melons are in season I make melon cubes myself knowing they will be sweet and juicy. If you make them at home allow time for melon cubes to be frozen before planning to blend the margaritas. Melon cubes may be stored sealed in the freezer for ready margarita mixing!
Melon Cube SHORTCUT: Honeydew melon can be found in the frozen section of most grocery stores. If you are in a time pinch or melons are out of season, they can be substituted.
Suggested Supplies for making Honeydew Melon Margaritas

This sounds like my kind of margarita and I love that you didn’t use anything artificial. Definitely a must try! If you want your melon juice to be clear, I learned that in Asia, they would take out the seeds and squeeze it for juice, add honey and water, plus ice and you have a fresh melon juice drink for the summer!
