    WHIPPED HOT CHOCOLATE TITLE IMAGE

We can again thank Tik Tok for Hot Chocolate Bombs, Dalgona Coffee (whipped coffee) and now Tik Tok Whipped Hot Chocolate.

Everyone’s making it and there’s no question why. It has a great texture, appearance and makes a rich cup of hot chocolate.

AND you can add it to chilled milk for an iced chocolate drink too.

The fast preparation time, 5 minutes, is worth it!

    What is Whipped Hot Chocolate?

Hot milk is on the bottom of a mug or glass and a whipped chocolate mixture is on top.

Its creamy, looks cool and is delicious when stirred together.

The chocolate is a combination of whipped dry instant hot chocolate mix with whipping cream.

It’s whipped with a mixer or milk frother into soft peaks or full whipped cream.

Added to the top of the drink it’s stirred in for a rich cup of cocoa.

    Why make Whipped Hot Chocolate?

It’s cool, number one. It’s rich and delicious (more importantly).

It takes only a few minutes to make and the hot chocolate is really rich with the combination of whipping cream and milk.

You can make it hot or cold.

It’s easily adjustable to any chocolate lovers palate. See the variations below.

The chocolate cloud-like presentation makes it feel fancier than a regular cup of hot cocoa.

    It makes hot chocolate sophisticated.

    Serve it Hot or Cold

Another great thing about this recipe is you can make a hot OR cold drink. Change the temperature of the milk!

For traditional hot cocoa use warmed milk.

For a cold chocolate drink use cold milk with or without ice.

    Recipe Ingredients + Notes

Instant Hot Chocolate mix. This is the star of the whipped chocolate. Use your favorite mix any will work. Our taste testers loved using this too.

Granulated Sugar. Though the hot chocolate mix will have sugar just a little bit more makes it perfect.

Heavy Whipping Cream. Is whipped into the hot chocolate mix to make the whipping chocolate. Make sure it’s cold when adding it to the mix for whipping.

Milk. Use any milk you like. This will go in the cup first and the whipped chocolate will go on top to be mixed in.

    Variations

Swap unsweetened cocoa in for the hot chocolate mix. If you love a deep rich chocolate flavor that is more of bittersweet chocolate, you’ll want to try this.

Use the same amount of the unsweetened cocoa as the recipe calls for instead of hot chocolate mix. Add an equal amount of sugar if you like bitterweet chocolate, or double the sugar for a sweeter flavor.

Add some extracts. Add a bit of peppermint extract for a peppermint chocolate flavor. Coffee extract (or strong coffee or espresso) for a mocha. Orange, almond or any other flavor you love with chocolate.

Add liqueur. For a cocktail version add some coffee liqueur, creme de menthe, cinnamon flavored liquor or your favorite in with the milk.

How to Make it – Step-by-Step

STEP 1. Combine the cocoa mix, sugar (if using) and whipping cream together in a mixing bowl (photos 1-2).

STEP 2. Using a hand mixer, milk frother or whisk, beat the mixture until soft peaks form (photo 3).

Or you can beat it until actual firm whipped chocolate cream forms.

Fill a mug with the warm milk. OR if making it iced, add the ice and cold milk. photo 4.

Spoon the whipped chocolate on top and serve (photo 5).

    Recipe FAQ’s + Pro Tips

Use cold heavy whipping cream. It should be right from the refrigerator when added to the cocoa mix.

Do you stir the whipped chocolate into the milk before drinking it?

Yes! This is exactly what you do. Mix it all together and enjoy.

Can I use prepared whipped cream?

Not for this recipe. It only takes a few minute to whip up and the end result is so worth it!

What is the best way to whip the chocolate?

A hand held mixer will whip it in just a minute or two. This is our highest recommended method.

A hand held milk frother will also work but is really for frothing just milk so it’s not as sturdy for mixing in other ingredients. They aren’t as powerful as a mixer and will be slower.

There won’t be enough liquid to work well in a standing mixer. The blade may not touch the liquid.

Hand whisking will work if you are willing to put some arm work into it.

You can even whip whipped cream in a jar. You’d want to whisk all the ingredients together before trying this method. Disclosure: we have not tried it with this recipe.
