Creepy Halloween Food Ideas
Cringey food is what makes Halloween fun! And for kids a simple food can be turned into an unexpected surprise easily.
This is the slam dunk easy Halloween recipe that always delivers.
Green Jello cups swimming with gummy worms, topped with a foamy layer sprinkled with green specs.
When you look at it together it’s creepy scene in a little cup.
But when you break it down it’s simple ingredients and fast to make!
Recipe Ingredients + Notes
Lime Jello. A 6-ounce box will make 8 green jello cups. If you cannot find a 6-ounce box use 2 3-ounce boxes. You’ll add 2 cups boiling water and 2 cups cold water to the mix.
Gummy Worms. A bag will provide enough to stick one or two inside the jello before it sets and one slithering out of the foamy top.
Whipped Cream. The easiest way to make the foamy top is with whipped cream canisters (the fastest too). Whipped cream in a tub or homemade whipped cream can also be used.
Green Sanding Sugar
What is sanding sugar? It’s a larger granule crystal sugar used for decorating. It reflects light and comes in many colors.
Where to Buy Sanding Sugar? It’s available online as well as in stores that carry baking supplies (craft stores and kitchen supply stores).
For these jello cups I love a neon colored sugar like this Light Green Sanding Sugar from Wilton. But make this your own!
Supplies Needed
Plastic cups – see through cups work the best. I love 9-ounce disposable tumblers. They are a perfect size to create these swampy little treats (shown in the photos).
Any clear cup will work though. If desired a smaller cup can also be used.
How to Make it – Step-by-Step
STEP 1: Prepare the jello as described on the package (photo 1) adding boiling water then cold water to the jello mix.
Pour 1/2 cup of jello mixture into each clear plastic cup (photo 2).
Place one or two gummy worms in each jello cup (photo 3 – after chilling).
Place in the refrigerator to fully chill (aproximately 4 hours).
PRO TIP: Place the jello cups on a rimmed baking sheet to keep them level while firming up.
STEP 2: Add whipped cream to the top of the chilled jello (photo 4). Finish with a gummy worm stuck into the whipped cream (photo 5) and a sprinkle of sanding sugar on top (photo 6).
Pro Tip for Best Results
For best appearance add the whipping cream and sanding sugar just before serving.
