This fun cocktail recipe was originally published in April 2014 and has been updated in March 2018!
Easter is not just for kids. And cocktails are not just for evening. Easter brunch is a perfect time for a cocktail with light flavors and some fizz.
An Elderflower Gin Fizz is a great choice for any warm weather brunch. The botanicals in gin mesh beautifully with St. Germain elderflower liqueur which is flowery and lightly sweet. The color is a sublime faint peachy color too!
What is a Gin Fizz?
A Gin Fizz cocktail is a light effervescent cocktail thanks to gin, lemon juice and sugar which are vigorously shaken in a cocktail shaker before being strained into a glass. Not to be confused with teh Ramos Gin Fizz which also has an egg white adding a frothy head on top.
This Elderflower Gin Fizz has the added flavor from St. Germain liqueur which as got to be one of my favorites. It’s lightly floral flavor give a traditional gin fizz a thirst-quenching boost.
Frozen Berries keeps the Elderflower Gin Fizz Cool
Traditionally a Gin Fizz cocktail is NOT served with ice. However I like it on the cooler side. To celebrate warmer weather I pre-froze berries (instructions in the recipe) to add to the cocktails.
The frozen berries makes it look and taste fresh (and are great to eat when the cocktail is done). Berry Freezing TIP: Freezing berries individually before combining them into a larger freezer container keeps them from freezing to each other for easier use. In a time pinch, frozen berries may be purchased too!
Regardless of what you are preparing for an Easter meal, these Elderflower Gin Fizz cocktails are a great addition. They are perfect for brunch or lunch!
They are also perfect for garden parties (does anyone still throw those?!) or summer evening sipping. The cool, light ingredients are completely refreshing and unique.
Suggested Supplies for making Elderflower Gin Fizz cocktails

I love the idea of frozen berries instead of ice cubes to chill a drink. I don’t keep gin on hand too often but this is a great reason to get some for a great brunch cocktail.
Jen says

With Spring and summer (hopefully) right around the corner, this will be a perfect cold drink for after yard work, or entertaining guests. I will also agree that it would be great for Easter brunch. When I think of the words “gin” and “fizz” together, I think of a drink called Sloe Gin Fizz (Sloe gin and 7-Up).

You have inspired me. This looks so refreshing!
Marly says
What a great idea to freeze the berries! At first I was thinking those didn’t quite look like elderberries, but I see that they’re frozen together in a clump. Love it!!
Toni Dash says
Actually Marly the frozen berries are blackberries and raspberries. The elder essence comes in the form of St. Germain liqueur in the cocktail ingredients. Technically St. Germain is made from the elderflower, not the actual berries. I’m going to change it, however lucky neighbors of elderberry growers could certainly freeze the elderberries for the ‘ice cubes’!
Marly says
Oh, I get it! That’s why those elderberries looked so much like blackberries! Thanks for clarifying. Yes, I am SO lucky. My neighbor has 2-3 large bushes that grow a LOT of elderberries…and he never minds me coming over to pick them. I just have to fight off the birds who seem to like the berries too!
Toni Dash says
I apologize for the misnaming Marly, and thank YOU for pointing it out! What a fantastic opportunity for you to have the berries right at hand. We have a small farm that has raspberries and gooseberries to pick at a very low price and I love the opportunity. There is something so novel and exciting about being able to pick from someone’s yard though! Hoping for some elderberry recipes from you this summer!
