There are so many delicious smoothie recipes for a busy morning. Whether you like green smoothies or fruit smoothies, we think you’ll agree homemade smoothies are are a delicious way to start the day.

Recipe Ingredients Notes
Bananas. You’ll use 3 medium size bananas. The riper the banana the sweeter the flavor so this is a perfect recipe to use up spotted bananas. Make sure they are slightly ripened or they won’t have much flavor.
Oats. Old fashioned oats (also called rolled oats) or quick oats can be used. Regular or gluten-free oats both work great. We do not recommend steel cut oats for this sweet smoothie.
Greek yogurt. Full fat, low fat or non-fat plain Greek yogurt all work. It adds just a touch of tanginess.
Milk. Any type of milk can be used, dairy milk or plant milks (soy milk, unsweetened almond milk, coconut milk, oat milk). If using dairy milk use whatever fat content you prefer from fat-free milk to whole milk.
Maple syrup. Use real maple syrup.

It’s very easy. Put all ingredients in the blender and blend until pureed.
Serve as is or top with a sprinkle of oats, cinnamon, some mini chocolate chips, banana slices, a drizzle of honey or chocolate syrup.
The recipe makes 3 1/2 cups of smoothie. It can be two large smoothies or four smaller smoothies. A perfect breakfast the whole family will love.
Variations
This banana oat smoothie is perfect as is or a great starting point for loads of variations!
Nut butter. A scoop of peanut butter, almond butter or sun butter (for a nut free option) adds healthy fats and protein. A peanut butter banana oatmeal smoothie is delicious and a healthy start to the day.
Frozen bananas. This is my favorite way to make a smoothie more like a milkshake without ice cream or added sugar. Peel and freeze fully ripened or overripe banana. Swap them in instead of fresh bananas.
They make creamy, thick smoothies, chilled like a milkshake. This method is much better than adding ice cubes which create small pieces of ice in the healthy smoothie.
Add more protein. Adding chia seeds or hemp seeds is a great flavorless way to bump up the protein of a smoothie. Protein powder can also be added.
Use flavored yogurt. Though we use plain yogurt you can swap in a flavor you like. For instance Honey flavored Greek yogurt would be delicious.
Add more fruit. If you’d love more fruit in your smoothie add some blueberries for a blueberry banana smoothie. Or mango for a mango banana smoothie. Or add a splash of orange juice.
Make it a vegan smoothie. Select a plant milk, coconut milk yogurt, use a frozen banana (will thicken from the removal of Greek yogurt) and a vegan-compliant maple syrup.
