    Recipe Ingredients + Notes

Regular size marshmallows. You’ll need 1 bag of regular size marshmallows (not mini) and will use 24.

Green candy melts. One 12-ounce bag of green candy melts will be used. They can be found at baking supply or party supply stores and online.

Wilton Candy melts are usually easy to find at a craft store with a baking section. Chocolate candy melts are the easiest way to make Frankenstein marshmallow pops (versus white chocolate).

Brown or black sprinkles. Jimmies type chocolate sprinkles make hair on the Halloween monster marshmallows.

Candy eyes. Two per marshmallow monster. Find these at baking or craft stores with a baking section or online.

Pretzel sticks. Regular or gluten-free pretzel sticks can be used. Break them into 1/2-3/4 inch pieces. Have at least 24 on hand.

Lollipop sticks. We use 6-inch long lollipop sticks. They can be found anywhere baking supplies are sold or online.

Cellophane bags. If you want to bag them individually after they dry use cellophane lollipop bags.

    Variations

Don’t use white chocolate. White chocolate can be tricky to melt and it often will ‘seize’ which is drying up. Candy melts are the easiest coating ingredient.

Skip the stick. If you don’t want marshmallow pops, remove the stick after coating the marshmallows and allowing them to set, remove the stick and dip the bottom in the green melted candy. Allow to set and serve stick-less.

Use some extra chocolate or edible marker. To make a scar or mouth some brown chocolate melts or chocolate chips can be used with a fine piping tip or snipping off a very small amount from the corner of a Ziploc bag to use as a piping bag.

Pipe a straight, horizontal line, then several small, spaced out vertical lines from one end of the horizontal line to the other to create a “stitched” look.

And edible marker can also be used.

Three Ways to Let Marshmallow Pops set

After your little monsters are created they’ll need to set undisturbed. There are three ways to do this. The upright and unside down methods have the least risk for additional lines forming in the melted chocolate.

    Upright (recommended)

Place them stick side down in a bowl filled with uncooked rice, a block of floral foam or a block of Styrofoam. The last two are available at crafting stores or online.

Lollipop stands can also be used (these are also used for cake pops). This stand is designed for decorating and there are many other options. There needs to be space between the pops so place them in every other hole if needed.

    Upside down

The pops can be placed on the ‘hair’ on a piece of parchment or wax paper in a baking sheet.

    Lying down

They can be placed with the back of the head down on a piece of wax paper or parchment paper.

How to make Frankenstein Halloween Marshmallows Pops – Step-by-Step

    STEP 1. Preparation

Melt the candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl per the package instructions (usually at low temperature for 15-second intervals stirring in between; each brand can differ so refer to packaging) (photo 1).

Inset a lollipop stick into the center of each marshmallow and set aside.

Pour the sprinkled in a small bowl (photo 2).

Set up the method for letting the pops set from the options above.

    STEP 2. Coat the marshmallows

One by one, dip marshmallows into the melted candy to coat (at least to the bottom if not the entire marshmallow – photo 3) allowing any excess candy to drip back into the bowl (photo 4-5).

Dip the top of the marshmallow into the candy sprinkles for hair (photo 6).

Place two candy eyeballs on the face (photo 6). NOTE: craft tweezers are handy for this.

Poke a pretzel piece (two per marshmallow) on either lower side of the marshmallow for the bolts on the Frankenstein monster’s neck (photo 7).

frankenstein halloween marshmallows recipe steps 5-7

    STEP 3. Allow to set

Use one of the three methods above to allow the candy coating to set at room temperature.

    Pro Tips

Use craft tweezers. For placing the eyes craft tweezers are handy. They can place them easily and avoid getting melted candy on your hands or smearing the melted coating.

    Frequently Asked Questions

These are really simple to make! I love that you’re using marshmallows instead of trying to do cake pops, those are always so messy for me. We made a test batch pre Halloween and they were a hit.
