This sizzling summer heat calls for cold, frosty drinks. Summer is the best time for blender cocktails. The abundance of fresh ingredients creates unlimited options for fresh sippers. If you are like me and have some mint in your garden (complete understatement for my yard), you’ll love these Blueberry Mint Daiquiris.

Candidly I’ve steered away from phoofy cocktails for some time. I have decided the more sugary the drink, the richer the opportunity for a ride on the Hangover Express the day after imbibing. I also feel the sweet, fruity umbrella family of drinks lull the drinker into a higher volume consumption as the taste of the liquor is well-hidden.

Fresh and icy Blueberry Mint Daiquiri in a blue glass jar with sprig of fresh mint

I really enjoy authentic flavored cocktails made with seasonal ingredients and today’s recipe for blueberry mint daiquiris hits the mark, harnessing the best of a blender drink with full flavors sure to become a refreshing summer fave!

I have been eating tons of blueberries recently. I’ve been putting them in everything I can think of from salads, to pies and non-dairy ice cream as well as smoothies. I don’t recall the last time I had a Daiquiri but somehow the abundance of blueberries and a garden bed of mint up to my waist gave way to a fantastic blueberry mint daiquiris.

FOR NON-DRINKERS (MOCKTAIL OPTION):  This cocktail is also easily turned into a ‘mocktail’ by swapping out the rum for additional naturally flavored limeade which does not sacrifice any flavor for the drinker.

WANT TO KNOW A SECRET? The secret to making smoothies and blender drinks with less ice is to use frozen berries. The frozen berries can be purchased or frozen at home and leaves the drink with much fuller flavor and no ice chips.

THE BEST WAY TO FREEZE BERRIES

Summer is the best time to freeze berries for future use or frozen drinks! The best way to freeze berries  without ending up with a mega frozen lump of berries is to rinse and dry them with a paper towel, then place them on a baking sheet lined with wax paper ensuring they do not touch each other; place the sheet in the freezer until the berries are frozen.

Once the berries are frozen individually, they can be put in a freezer plastic bag or freezing ‘jar’ (made of plastic with a screw on lid) for keeping in the freezer. This allows using whatever quantity you desire as the berries will not stick to each other in the container. A perfect option for the abundance of berries of the season, whether at the Farmer’s Market, from berry picking or the great prices at the grocery store.

Light rum is the key liquor in a daiquiri. These Blueberry Mint Daiquiris is sweetened with agave nectar and naturally sweetened limeade. Along with fresh lime juice make these cocktails refreshing and thirst-quenching.

I love serving the blueberry mint daiquiris in pint size blue glass Mason jars (readily available wherever canning jars are sold) with these fun flower lids with metal straws. It’s easy to prepare them before a gathering and serve them in a galvanized bucket full of ice.

That sounds so good! I’ve had a ton of daiquiris in my life, but I don’t think I’ve EVER had a blueberry one before.

That sounds delicious. Daiquiris are my favorite mixed drinks. They’re yummy, alcoholic slushies.

The lids! Where can we get the lids?! They are darling, and the new Ball blue jars look great with the blueberries, too.
