Ingredients

  • 1 bag regular size marshmallows do not use mini marshmallows
  • 24 Lollipop sticks 6-inch long
  • 1 12-ounce package green candy melts
  • Brown or black chocolate sprinkles jimmies style
  • 48 Candy eyes
  • 24 Pretzel sticks regular or gluten-free; broken into ½-¾ inch pieces

Optional

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening see NOTES

Instructions

Preparation

  • Insert a lollipop stick into the center of each marshmallow and set aside.
Pour the chocolate or black sprinkles into a small bowl.
  • Set up the method to allow the finished marshmallows to see (see NOTES below).

Make the Halloween Marshmallows

  • In a medium-sized microwaveable bowl, melt the candy melts as directed on the package.
  • Working one by one, dip the prepared marshmallows into the green candy coating, making sure that the marshmallows are covered at least to the bottom edge of each one.
Allow any excess green coating to drip off into the bowl.
  • Dip the top of the coated marshmallow into the sprinkles to create Frankenstein’s hair.
  • Place a pair of eyes on the front of each marshmallow.
NOTE: using tweezers can make this easier and less messy.
  • Poke pretzel sticks into the sides of the marshmallows (2 pieces for each) to mimic the bolts on the sides of Frankenstein’s neck.
  • Continue decorating until all of the marshmallows are complete, placing each one in the method chosen to set.
  • When the candy coating is hardened completely, serve and enjoy.

Notes

Use craft tweezers. For placing the eyes craft tweezers are handy. They can place them easily and avoid getting melted candy on your hands or smearing the melted coating.
How to thin melted candy coating
If the candy melts are too thick for dipping the marshmallows either add up to a tablespoon vegetables shortening or Wilton EZ Thin (follow the package instructions). Stir into the melted candy and it will thin it out for thinner coating.
Methods to allow coated marshmallows to set
Select one of the following methods and set it up during the preparation of the recipe.
Upright (recommended)
Place them stick side down in a bowl filled with uncooked rice, a block of floral foam or a block of Styrofoam. The last two are available at crafting stores or online.
Lollipop stands can also be used (these are also used for cake pops). This stand is designed for decorating and there are many other options. There needs to be space between the pops so place them in every other hole if needed.
Upside down
The pops can be placed on the 'hair' on a piece of parchment or wax paper in a baking sheet.
Lying down
They can be placed with the back of the head down on a piece of wax paper or parchment paper.
How to Store
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week if the weather is not hot. They can also be stored in the refrigerator; be sure the container is airtight as moisture will damage the coating.
If stacking them store in single layers with a sheet of parchment paper in between the layers to protect the marshmallows.
