Slow Cooker Turkey Chili

Hearty Slow Cooker Turkey Chili is brimming with lean ground turkey, smoldering spices and sweet potato cubes. A delicious contrast of sweet and spicy flavors in a wholesome easy chili recipe.

Ingredients

Turkey Chili

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil avocado oil can be substituted
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 15-ounce can can diced tomatoes with the juice
  • 1 14.5-ounce can kidney beans drained and rinsed
  • 1 14.5-ounce can black beans drained and rinsed
  • 2 cups peeled, cubed sweet potatoes
  • 1 medium yellow onion diced
  • 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth low sodium recommended
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon ground cayenne pepper optional for extra heat
  • Juice of half a lime

Optional Toppings (choose one or more if desired)

  • lime wedges
  • jalapeno slices
  • torn fresh cilantro
  • crushed tortilla chips
  • sour cream or crema

Instructions

  • In a medium size skillet, brown the ground turkey over medium-high heat, breaking into small pieces, until cooked through. Drain any excess fat and set aside. NOTE: there may not be any excess fat to drain.
  • In the bottom of the slow cooker, drizzle the oil and then add the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, beans, cooked turkey, sweet potatoes, onion, broth and seasonings. Stir to combine and cover.
  • Cook on HIGH HEAT for 3-4 hours or LOW HEAT for 5-6 hours, stirring occasionally.
  • Once the chili has finished cooking, turn off the heat and stir in the lime juice. Serve immediately with your favorite toppings, enjoy!

Cooked in a 6 quart Crockpot.
